In recent years, Vietnam has attracted significant foreign investment, including in the eyewear sector, demonstrating rapid investment momentum and strong GDP growth, which highlights its potential market vitality. Besides, many have been asking for our insights on the Vietnamese market and opportunities for joint visits. In response, our Chief Editor, Jordan, embarked on a research trip to Vietnam at the end of May, accompanied by industry leaders from Hong Kong’s brand and retail sectors.

Earlier this year, we published the “Eyewear Supply Chain Directory” which received a wonderful response. This trip provided a valuable opportunity to visit some of these overseas factories. During our journey, we also explored several unique eyewear stores, allowing us to gain deeper insights into the mid-to-high-end eyewear consumer market and the local consumption trends and demands.
GOAT VISION (Wing Fung Optical International Co., Ltd. , Hong Kong)
Our first stop was GOAT VISION, located in Ninh Binh, just two hours’ drive from Hanoi. Surrounded by stunning natural scenery, the city resembles Guilin in Guangxi. GOAT VISION’s factory is set to commence production in 2024, featuring state-of-the-art facilities in this picturesque area, marking a new chapter in eyewear manufacturing and attracting our team to explore its production model and growth potential.

▲ GOAT VISION has introduced numerous machines to enhance production efficiency and established its own electroplating facilities, achieving a complete production line.

OKIA Optical (OKIA Optical Co., Ltd. , Hong Kong)
Since establishing operations in Ho Chi Minh City in 2019, OKIA has steadily progressed in Vietnam’s eyewear manufacturing sector. After several years of development, its workforce now exceeds 300, with ongoing team expansion and increased production capacity. OKIA Vietnam not only showcases significant market competitiveness but also contributes to the prosperity of Vietnam’s eyewear manufacturing industry, making its growth trajectory worthy of industry exploration and emulation.

▲ Nearby OKIA’s factory, NIKE employs over 30,000 workers in its factory. Satellite images clearly show its iconic “✔️,” reflecting the scale of its operations. This also indicates international companies’ confidence in investing in Vietnam.

Conclusion
This visit proved highly beneficial, with the insights and experiences shared by the two owners deeply inspiring us. Vietnam’s industrial development showcases enormous potential and opportunities. The country’s stable economic growth has attracted substantial foreign investment, particularly in the manufacturing and technology sectors, highlighting its strong market appeal. However, establishing factories in Vietnam currently presents several challenges. Firstly, the supply chain is not yet fully developed, with many materials and components still needing to be imported from China or overseas, impacting production flexibility and efficiency. Additionally, cultural differences pose a significant barrier for companies entering the Vietnamese market, making it crucial to understand and balance local business models, employee needs, and consumer habits.
Despite these challenges, Vietnam’s youthful population and relatively low labor costs are important factors for many businesses relocating their production bases here. In light of the US-China trade tensions, more factories are planning to expand into Vietnam, and the local supply chain is expected to gradually improve. The government’s active support and reform policies further enhance the investment environment.
After visiting the factories, we also explored Vietnam’s eyewear consumer market. In the next article, I will share my experiences from visiting two unique eyewear stores, allowing us to appreciate the charm of Vietnam’s boutique eyewear shops.
