The Four Biggest Color Trends For 2021

Covid-19 has poured unforgettable and painful memories to everyone in the world, and we are still praying that the situation can get better. These kind of emotions and mood amongst mankind are even associated to the color of the year. The Pantone Color Institute selected PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating as a partner for the Color of the Year 2021, which is a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.

PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating
Illuminating is a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power. It is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter.

❶ KIRK & KIRK: The British Brand Kirk & Kirk, they are always delivering products with gentleman style. The model “ESME C1” adopts the crystal Illuminating acetate for the thick framework with a retro taste.
❷ MONCLER: The fashional sports brand – MONCLER, produced by Marcolin, has also launched a hood-shaped sunglasses “ML0184”. The ML0184 is a one-piece frame that is full of a sense of mechanical, and with the Illuminating Yellow lenses, it also exudes a great sense of sports.
❸ THEO: Speaking of the brands which are famous for vivid color, we can introduce the Belgian geek Theo, known for its extraordinary shape style. “Aogashima” creates a playful heavy Look, made by the mixture of plastic and metal, with irregular-style in bright yellow tone.
❹ GROOVER SPECTACLES: Seldom did GROOVER SPECTACLES launch metal round spectacle frames, however, here we have “Johan”, made of Mix Metal & Titanium. The small round glasses and tinted yellow lenses drags us into the memory of the Lennon Glasses.

Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray
This is the second time that Pantone selected two colors for the Color of the Year in 22 years. The first time they picked two colors was in 2015, where the Rose Quartz and Serenity were picked. And this year, Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray, as partners, were selected and playing a complementary role for each other. Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray is emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation.

❶ RIMOWA: Punctuated by signature iconic details like the groove, Monogram and rivets, the “Bridge” has an industrial look with the calm and cool grey lenses.
❷ DIESEL: The rock-style “DL0336” is accentuated with the shield shape, matte black tone and gray mirrored lenses, exuding a futuristic feel.
❸ A BATHING APE: “BA13060” is a wise choice for optical glasses in Ultimate Gray. The camouflage print on the surface of the gray acetate makes it an eye-catching style.
❹ MOREL: “Oga 10143O” from French brand MOREL has infused delicate details on the gray-toned metal frame – both sides of the frame are designed with diamond-shaped metal. The back of the frame and the inside of the temple feature a sharp blue tone to make a better color contrast.
❺ OWDEN: Setting it shape in square, “Lize 02” is special with its different textures on the top and bottom of the frame. The matte buffalo horn texture matches with tortoise in Ultimate Gray, creates a very unique impression.


Rust
In addition to the Color of the Year 2021 – Illuminating and Ultimate Gray, Pantone also selected the season-popular colors for Spring and Summer. The selected colors include Marigold, Cerulean, French Blue, Green Ash, and Rust. Among them, the color of Rust is even more popular in the fashion world. Its brown tone is from the earth, symbolizing autumn leaves, and is an atypical Warm Spring Colors.

❷ CELINE: CELIND’s “CL40168I-53F” is designed with a touch of nostalgia from the 1970s. It is made from glossy rust color acetate with oversize square shape and custom three-rivet hinge.
❸ RIGARDS: This quirkily octagonal Rigards RG008ST are geometric, yet playful. They are crafted with a stainless steel front and aluminum magnesium temples, and finished with natural oxidation and a hand-applied patina texture, creating a modern effect with ancient sensibility.
❹ MOTIVUM: Motivum from Korea also released eyewear in rust tone. It is composed of remarkably thin front and ultra-lightweight titanium template, which is also representing the characteristic of the brand – minimalistic and simplicity.
❺ P+US: The rock series from P+US also adopted the rust-brown design. Combining glass fiber with rock with the help of high-tech methods, it turns out to be a surprisingly durable and strong product. Transparent
The Transparent color is a special Editorial Pick. It was once an uncommon color in the past but has made a splash in the recent years. Enjoying much love from the various eyewear brands and fashion brands, the transparent acetate is highly used to create refreshing yet fashionable eyewear look.

❶ PARIS SAINT GERMAIN X THIERRY LASRY: The French Eyewear Designer Thierry Lasry has teamed up with the Paris Saint-Germain (his favorite French football team since his childhood) to launch a collaborative collection. The frames are made from transparent Mazzucchelli acetate together with the three core colors of PSG – red, blue, and white, enriching the visual color of the transparent color frame.
❷ YUICHI TOYAMA: “U-128” offers a bold round shape crafted out of Japanese acetate. The clear gray is harmoniously matched with the subtle gold ring metal placed within the frame front, reflecting unique luster and the fineness of Japanese Craftsmanship.
❸ EYEVAN: “Sadler Sun” is inspired by French vintage. It is designed with a thicker and wider temple and EYEVAN’s original triangular pedestal hinge. The sunglasses are made with great attention to detail. Available in classic black, tortoise and clear gray, clear brown and clear pink.
